Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes is a condition that occurs only during pregnancy.

Gestational Diabetes occurs when the pregnant body cannot produce enough insulin to accommodate the growing baby and changes in hormones level of the mother. The lack of insulin causes blood glucose to rise and complicates the pregnancy. Women who have had Gestational Diabetes are at greater risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes later in life.

Nutrition plays an important role in the management of gestational diabetes. Women should focus on a healthy balanced diet that includes a wide variety of foods, eating regular meals and an active lifestyle.
